Was planning on picking up some extra parts like raw water pump impeller, bellows, and some o-rings to have on hand. With the option of aftermarket vs older and unknown age, NOS OEM parts, was wondering which was the wiser choice. OEM is usually considered better quality but I'm concerned about the age of parts that are no longer produced. An OEM bellows or seal isn't a good deal if it's near the end of it's storage life and is dryrotted or ozone degraded.
An example is a carb rebuild kit for an older Solex carb on a AQ series Volvo 4 cylinder. The OEM version has superior quality accelerator pump rubber but certainly won't be much good if it's dry rotted.
It sounds like I'm asking a question to which the answer seems obvious but I haven't actually seen deteriorated NOS parts and wondering if anyone has actual experience with this or knows the recommended shelf life.
