I have one Question on Shift cable adjustment. I replaced the shift cable last night. Triple check Alignment of fork to roller and lower shift shaft to bell shaft. Everything is all lined up and the drive unit went on very smothley no beating with logs or soft hammers. Check F anf R Lock/ratchet with cable by hand all good. Adjusted end at shift plate like artical in Mercrusier post. Shift is nice and smooth both directions F and R. When i do the final check with useing shifter in forward it works great turn prop to left and locks in and turn to right and it ratchets like my other boat. When i put into reverse the props locks to the right then when you ratchet it turns freely but it is a little stiffer and when you look at the shift plate and cable end on the shift plate it moves back and forth about 3/8 of an inch when you try to ratchet it to the left. This doesnt seem right to me but maybe it is. QUESTION IS can this all be in the adjustment or will i have to pull the drive back off. Realy doesent madder witch one becouse the drive install went so smooth. Any Any Help today would greatly be apreciated. Thanks

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment????

....patience grasshopper. Most normal folks are working this time of day. That is, except for us ol' fossil farts!!!

I think you are trying to capture all of your adjustments with just the forward adjustment
Note the 'reverse adjustment' "B" nut in the attached.
(applies to most Alpha drives)

I think i would lake test it if you do have the adjustments correct.
It may act different in the water under load.

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment????

Update - Finished it up and readjusted last night. One thing is there is 2 different ways of doing this adjustment. the one is on this site with the hand sketch and directions. Then you have the one on mercusier site and tells to final adjust with the dash cable. so i firerd up the boatand it shifts great into F but when i put into R motor died and it didnt sound right. So i just shut er down and i am going to take to a boat Mech before i mess something up. i am going to watch him so i will relay the info. Happy Boating
