Shift Cable Adjustment

Gentlemen, While attempting to adjust the shift cables on my 86 Sea Ray Seville I noticed in my MerCrusier Stern Drive manual on page 2A-15 step 6 it says to back-off Brass Barrel 4 turns away from eye. Now in my Seloc MerCrusier Stern Drive manual on page 7-7 step 5 it says to rotate Barrel 4 turns clockwise toward the eye end of cable.
I'd like to know which book I should rely on and what you people recommend?

Thanks to you both. Will start over again in the morning. Had a little trouble after adj. drivr would go down but not up. moved trim sender and got it to rise so I could move boat. will take your advice and throw the seloc away. thanks again.

Thank you Pete and Dubs. Readjusted the cables using the Mercrusier manual also adjusted the trim tab. Fired it up and shifted very nice. Question on the trim tab. I have it set to shut off after 6" of cyl. showing that's raising the out drive. lowering the out drive there's no automatic way to shut the power off. When the trim gage shows down I just release the button (switch). Is this correct or should there be a pressure switch or trim tab for the down position? I'm about ready for the lake. 110? here tomorrow. About 105 for the 4th.

Don't "trim up" to the limit. Just get boat the boat on plane & adjust the trim angle to it's "sweet spot" for that particular load!
Get thru the weekend & search "How to adjust trim position &/or limit.
