Having a brain fart...I have viewed this many many times but drawing a blank .Installing on of my alpha drives yesterday,I thought something didnt look right on the end of the shift cable bellows.I thought I remembered seeing a crimp or small zip tie on the end but didnt see any so I looked at my other drive cable and same thing ,nothing on the bellows end.Am I just thinking of an older previous boat I have owned in the past or is something missing here?? 1988 Alpha drives setup. Thanks Charlie

As long as it's a proper 'fuel line' zip ties, then yes, that's what I use. If you must use a standard tie, double it around.

Thanks .So I should assume both of mine are gone?? I have twins and neither have a zip or crimper on the bellows.Very strange ....But possible.

Please clarify??? "Fuel Line?" WWW is not specific as to these compared to the "black" ties, which are UV rated and do not contain metal. Photos appear them as the same. But, I am no expert. I've used the blacks ones for decades. But, even the black industrial grade ones eventually break down due to sun light.

All the other bellows/rubber have ground tabs. I am curious why the shift cable and drive lube rubber tubes/boots are not grounded. Perhaps just not feasible?

the only place i've seen as of late to acquire fuel line zip ties is from mercury marine. not sure as to the composition of material used in manufacturing them but seeing as how mercury sells them as fuel rated my guess is they are stout enough for securing a shift bellows without sever degradation. your local mercury dealer should have them in stock

the clamp portion, as stated by campfire, has a radius so as to fully clamp around a hose, tube or otherwise without a gap

as far as no tab for grounding the only explanation i can think of is, yes it isn't feasible seeing as the bellows material which mates to the gimbal housing is quite thin and the diameter much smaller compared to the other bellows flange mount areas. the risk of damaging the bellows or compromising the sealing surface with a clip allowing water intrusion to the bilge is too great. the gear lube monitor hose is held in place with plastic retainers, no need for continuity
