Re: Shift Shaft CAble Nut Frozen, stuck, won't unscrew 86 mercruiser alpha1 gen 1

I've had to drill them out a few times when they get corroded in from salt water use.

Drill a little at a time and don't damage the threads in the housing or you will have to replace it too.
When you get it drilled enough you can take it out piece by piece.

Don S, sorry to wake up an older thread, but I am at the drilling part for mine. What's the biggest I can drill and how do you pick the rest out piece by piece? Small punch?

Thanks.

This is your new thread. Don S. left us 3 years ago. RIP.

Please don't wake up old thread purposely! We ask that threads inactive for 3 or more months remain inactive. Start new threads and members will lend a hand.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Look up the bit size for tappin' a 1/4" pipe thread,....
It's 1/4" Straight, not the usual tapered thread,... You'll wanta get that Tap,....

Dental picks, mechanic's tool picks, small punches, whatever it takes,....
'n the Tap for the final pass,....
