I have a mercruiser 260 with what i believe to be an Alpha one gen I outdrive however I cannot tell for sure as there are no numbers on the outdrive. The shift cable that runs to the out drive broke. I am trying to find a replacement however the nut on the cable housing that screws into the bell housing is facing the wrong way on all the shift cables i have looked at for m/mr/alpha drives. On the original the thread is on the out drive side while the nut is on the hull side all the new cbles are the opposite. Does anyone know if this was changed and I need to run a tap through the from the rear of the bell housing to thread it so the newer cables that screw in from the back will work? Or does anyone know if there is a special cable part I can't seem to find that screws into the bell housing from the front like the original?

any napa store can get you the other cable but like AM1 said its best to tap it and go with the bigger braded cable...its 1/4 pipe thread
