Shift cable issues?

92 OMC 5.0 V8 I/O

So, when I go to throttle up from idle, sometimes she'll want to stall, then I'll hear a loud (loud enough to be heard over the engine noise and through engine compartment cover) "click" sound and she'll power up like normal. It almost feels as though my throttle or shift cable is "catching" on something but upon a visual I see nothing. Anyone ever expierence anything like this?
