Re: shift cable removal?? stumped
In your very first picture, what state of shift is the outdrive in? Plus you did not mention, in that post, that you had no reverse.
Also, there is no adjustment inside the converter that I am aware of. The adjustments to achieve proper shift positions are done with the adjuster on the terminating end of the cable coming back from the throttle.
You just have to find and mark neutral, forward and reverse on converter box. The cable from the outdrive can stretch a little so those positions are often not where the current scale indicates.
I had not done any adjustments when the first picture was taken
In the second group of pictures, the first picture shows the outdrive in neutral. I did get the reverse issue fixed. Here are the steps I took.
1. Removed the cable that goes to the throttle lever from the converter.
2. Moved the lever (on the converter) all the way to the left (forward gear).
3. Slowly moved the lever to the right until it went in to neutral. (noting the position on the scale.)
4. Moved the lever all the way to the right (reverse).
5. Slowly moved it to the left until it went in to neutral.
6. Positioned the lever in between these 2 spots.
7. Adjusted and replaced the cable that comes from the throttle.
voila I now have forward, reverse and neutral. I know my scale that is on the converter is not accurate.
Apparently when I had the cable replaced last year they did not go through this process.
Now, back to the issue at hand. When the shift lever is moved to the forward and/or reverse positions the esa switch becomes depressed. Is this normal or is this causing my engine to bog down when I am trying to pull a skier out of the water?
If it is causing it to bog down what is the fix? I have searched and read the shop manual and can't seem to find anything.
