I am replacing a transom on a 1987 221 Islander. 2.5 L OMC. I have the engine and out drive out of the boat. But I am having trouble removing the shift cable from the pivot housing. I am following the procedures as outlined in Seloc repair manual. I have removed the bell crank and bracket but the cable will not push or pull through the housing.

you have the pivot housing off should be easy.

throw the seloc manual in the fire, or use it in the cottage outhouse if you run out of TP.

follow the factory manual or follow the manuals on sterndrive.info

I will look for A factory manual. Are they still available?

One picture is worth a 1000 words. Thanks MRS. the Seloc manual says to remove the cable then the pivot housing. Just to remove the gimble yolk. It looks like removing the cable is not necessary. It also looks like I may be able to remove the pivot housing and gimbal assembly as a unit. What do you think?
