Hello, I'm new to this site and to boating. I purchased a 1973 Glastron Starflite. It has a Merc 4 cyl 140hp engine. My shift cable malfunctioned. I went to replace it and West Marine gave me the 600a replacement cable. I put it in and it would shift into forward and reverse fine. My problem is when going forward with the control lever the lever stops before throttle is applied. I was able to verify that my old cable would extend an additional 1/2" or 1" more than the new cable. I called WM and they said I had the right cable. I just don't know which one I'm supposed to use. Everything about the 600a works except it needs to extend a little further when the threaded end is all the way pushed in.
Since I'm confused I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a different cable I'm supposed to be using. I see there are "479 Cables" that they sell I just don't know what the difference is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
