Hey everyone. Now that I have the outdrive on the boat I am faced with a new issue. When shifting into forward/reverse I get a slight momentary grinding sound. I am sure that it is the shift interrupt switch not activating. I have looked in the Mercruiser manual but do not see where you can adjust it. The engine isn't momentarily dying like it should. I have done everything just like the manual says as far as adjusting the shift cable and throttle cables.

Any help or ideas?

Ooops, stupid me. It is a Mercruiser SB Chevy 305 w/ an Alpha One outdrive.

Grinding going into gear is normal. interupt switch only works when in the water ,coming OUT of gear.to test, activate switch by hand and check for stalling or missing.

So it is normal to grind when putting the engine into gear? Ok, if you say so. It works when depressed by hand. It momentarily stalls the engine and will stall it only if not released. When shifting from gear to neutral there is no grinding that I have feel or hear.

So I guess I am ready for my 1st sea trial. Thanks!

Put it firmly into gear, not gingerly or tenatively....
It should 'clunk' not 'grind'......
Your switch sounds like it is functioning properly, btw.....;)

mine does the same thing. The shift interrupt only works when going out of gear and when in the water. Get it in the water you won't hear it as much.

kind of a quick shift is the best way, firmly put it in gear but not to fast...if that makes sense..:)
