Is there a "typical" installation procedure for throttle and shift cables and a starting for adjustment...in my case I have a 56 30 hp rude and the simplex controls common from 50's thru 70's........I barely get forward and no reverse...

Yes -- disconnect the cables from the engine if you have them already connected. Put the control box in neutral. Bring the shift cable up to its attachement point on the shift linkage on the engine. If the attachement points do not line up exactly, adjust the trunion (threaded barrel) until they do. Repeat the adjustment for the throttle cable making sure the throttle linkage at the engine is held against the throttle stop when making the adjustment.
