Sorry its a 2001 johnson 250 . Its raining ill post a pic tomorrow if I can. I got two cables one throttle and one shift I assume . It locks in and then there is a little spinnie thing that tightens the cable. That's all I know I hope that helps

Re: shift cable

To adjust the shift cable you need to put the engine in neutral (with the cable end off the linkage "stud"). Wiggle the linkage 'till it's in the center of it's play. Put the shifter in neutral and adjust the cable length to match up with the stud on the linkage. Simple as that. Then put the cable end on the stud and tighten everything up.

hikick, it is kind of frowned on to dig up old threads and then hijack them, if you have a question start a new thread and you will get more answers, this thread is over a year old.

I did not hijack the thread. The question was a request to clarify the answer. I am sure others read old answers/threads and get valuable information just as I have several times. No need for a new thread on same question is it? Anyway I figured out what the author was saying by reading over and over again, so, I appreciate the year old thread very much. Saved me money and some extra time on water.

Re: shift cable

1 more method, from OMC. Disconnect shift cable, move control lever to farward gear, 3/4 throttle, shift gearcase into farward gear, as far as shift lever will go. Adust cable until cable end will slip over pin. Check your work.

Don't know what kind of control box you have but you may have installed the cables in the wrong holes on the arms in the box.
