went to install new shift shaft bushing and the shift shaft pulled all the way out of the shift cam, now I can't get it to go back in, am I going to have to tear into the lower unit or is there a way to get it back in, there is a slot for a c-clip at the bottom of the shaft but I don't see one in the hole:(

Re: shift cam

okay, I feel better now, I layed the lower unit on it's side and tapped it with a hammer and the shift cam moved back into place, there still is no sign of a e-clip or c-clip should there be one?

Re: shift cam

There was a hairpin clip on the shaft, you should find it under the shift shaft retainer nut.

Re: shift cam

I have the clip that's right under the shift shaft retainer nut but it looks like there should be one at the end of the shaft that meets the shift cam? or is the shift shaft suppose to just come right out?

Re: shift cam

Nothing goes in the bottom groove, I think it might be for lubrication but don't really know.
