I've just acquired a 1967 (Model no 60752A)60HP Evinrude V4 two stroke that wasn't going, which I've now got running OK except for the shift.

When I got it it'd shift into reverse and neutral but not engage forward. I've tinkered with the linkage without a manual and made things worse. Shift lever operates through reverse/neutral/ forward positions OK but now it's stuck in reverse.

I was tinkering with the adjuster bolt in a slot on the arm that has a rod coming up from what I assume is the selector shaft arm, and which operates the shaft that locks out the distributor or whatever it's supposed to do. Doesn't seem to make any difference where I lock the adjuster bolt in the slot, so far as operating the gears goes. Can't see anywhere else to adjust.

I've disconnected the cable and have been operating the arm direct, so it's not a cable fault.

I'm wondering if the arm on the selector shaft (i.e. the shaft inside the casing that is at right angles to and operated by the rod connected to the shift lever)has worn so that it's not turning the selector shaft. I can't see properly through the inspection hole or with the rear casing cover removed. The arm definitely turns, but I don't know about shaft.

Thanks for any ideas.
