shift interrupt ?

Just got a new electronic dist from MM. Can't figure where to put the shift interrrupt switch wire. I have an old Morse shifter, this is a pic of what I think is the interrupt switch. There was nothing connected to the switch before. I was panning on running the wire through the switch and then to ground, is that right?

Also, is there a resistor that is supposed to go in there?

thanks

Kind of hard to tell in that tiny picture, but it looks more like the neutral safety switch in the control. What engine/drive/year is this on.

It was a volvo 5.7 (200?) with a 280 sterndrive. I just put a rebuilt 74 gm 350 in. Im trying to piece everything back together. I know the pic is small, it looks like the switch is on (or off) only when it is in neutral.

It's a safety item. Keeps you from starting the engine when it's not in neutral. Just like a car engine.
