first off i want to say this is my first I/O engine build i didnt know i needed the switch until i took it out for the first time and i could not shift out of Forward or reverse without turning off the engine so now i have the switch installed my first question is..

1) what do i hook the switch to, to ground out my ignition so i can shift out of gear? can i use the white wire comming from the ignition box which is used for non-msd distributors, they say in the directions i can put a switch on it and use it as anti-theft by flipping the switch and grounding it out..

2) the spring loaded plate does not move in the driveway on muffs does it have to be in the water under a load for the plate to move and actuate the switch?

ignition system rundown real quick also..
MSD 6m-2 ignition box
msd pro-dist. (marine)
msd hi vibration coil

also this is on a 5.7l chevy (mercruiser)
se-106 outdrive was alpha-1 previous owner changed it

Ayuh,...
1),... I think the T-Bolt IV is the Best igntion on the Water,...
You need to do your research about the MSD,... I donno what grounds it out...
Maybe somebodyelse has messed with 'em,... Or try a Hod Rodding forum...

2),... Yes...
Without water, no movement,... And only coming Out of gear...

See the wiring diagram a ways down...

http://www.msdpower.com/download/6460.pdf

If that's the same set of instructions you have and it isn't clear, I don't know. Thunderbolt ignition is great and runs fine on my set up. I'm adding a crane fireball ignition (tonight), but using the merc distributer, module and oem coil.
