O NO! so I figured that I would install my lower unit tonight but I done some reading. I took out the philips screw and dropped the lower unit with out the shift lever that stayed on the motor and the lower unit is in my shop whats the procedure to get this back and working right

you took the phillips screw out of the lower unit, correct. the shift rod stayed in the midsection and pull out of the lower unit. you did not disconnect the shift rod under the carbs, the phillips screw hold the shifting yoke in place, OH NO, you will have to dismantle the lower unit, get it all back in place.

You probably wouldn't need a manual just to replace the yoke pin, but maybe for other stuff.

If you take the lower unit off, turn it upside down and take the bottom off, you'll see where the yoke pin goes and it's easy to put it back in place.

lower unit is a one piece case, not like the old ones.

Must have broken something in there to have pulled it apart.
Shift rod screws into a connector that is attached to a shift lever in the gear case. Those parts won't come out through the cover!

Threaded end broken off shift rod ???

i tryed to get this together last night no go: Im trying to get the shift lever into the shift cradle. What i tryed to do was balance the cradle on the shaft and put a small amount of grease to keep it there and slide it back together that didnt work. tonight I am going to remove the bottom carb like suggested and try to get it in on the bench. I got a problem Its hard to get the reverse gear out like the shaft is binding and holding it back probally worn a groove or ? it moves out a little ways no probs, anny tips on how to take the rev. gear out? another delema is now would i know where N is on the shift shaft? I probally got the clutch inbetween the rev. and forward gear messed up how would I know if thats in right? I really would like to get this thing in the water tonight my 4 year old is way to excited not to go and im not going to let him down. thank you

okay I just looked at a service manual what I am going to try tonight is taking the shift rod out like i should have done in the first place and trying to guide it in place on the bench first I saw that the shift shaft needs to be pushed in all the way I think I can do that apply a small amount of greese on the shift cradle and hopefully it will go in. MY largest concern is the clutch indetween the rev and forward gear HOW WILL in know if thats in right or wrong. I cannot for the life of me get the rev gear out; its binding on the shaft somewhere// thanks
