Good Day all,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience in the shift lever on a 1969 9.5hp Evinrude 9922S? My shift lever when put in neutral is in the spot where it should be for forward, and when I put it in forward it goes so far down it hits against the starboard bracket assembly. Is this a Shift lever bearing issue, or something else? if If it is a bearing issue does anyone know what is involved in replacing those? If needed i can add some pics or a video if needed later.
Thanks for your help.

The lower unit was just off to replace seals. But it was like that before it was taken off for service. That was the first thing I thought is that the shift rod was not in the grove, but I took it off and reinstalled it to make sure. The lever is just to loose which is why I thought it could be the bearings.

So, I figured this issue out if anyone else may have or at some point have the same issue. The Clevis to Bracket Screw had worked itself loose, and all I need to do was adjust it and tighten.

I have that same engine and it's a workhorse. Nice you got it fixed. Do a quick search for Lee Roy's Ramblings, he has a great page up on these engines.
