Good morning to all. I have a 1989 mercruiser engine 3.0. I bought a shift plate replacement (864363a). Can’t seem to align it up and be able to mount it. Does anyone have any pics or installation guide. The only thing that came with it was a parts list and not so good instructions. I don’t see a way to really mount it. Have to keep in mind I have the hole that can’t be covered up because of the hose coming off the spark arrestor. Thanks in a advance for any info

The shift plate can be mounted anywhere, its doesn't have to be on the motor. Only limitation is the cable length and bend radius

What do you mean by aligning?

Aligning I mean I thought it would of aligned with the old parts I took off. If it can be mounted anywhere I can find somewhere in the general location and keep the cables where they need. Thanks

Where was the original one mounted? Most of the one's I've seen have been mounted to the starboard riser with 3 threaded studs. Does your starboard riser have 3 threaded studs coming out of it? And you're saying your replacement doesn't line up w. these?

Ok I’m still lost. Supposedly this part I got is a whole replacement kit that replaced the original shift interupt switch. I absolutely can not find how to mount this new one on. Hopefully someone has had this problem and replaced this before. The first pic is what I have and the second pic is the replacement shift plate looks like. None of the old bolt mount holes will line up with this without trying to cover the oil cap or the spark arest hose.

Your motor did not use a shift plate, it mounted all the components to the top of the valve cover. Note all the stud locations. If unable to mount it there, as before it could be mounted in other locations. Could even use some aluminum strap metal from the hardware store. Make a bracket for your plate

Make something to mount plate with existing places. Doesn't have to be fancy and doesn't require much strength

I appreciate all of this. I’ll get on making something tomorrow when I get back home.
