Re: Shift Problems

Thanks everybody. I think what I'll do is adjust the linkage as Don suggested and if I'm still having problems

i had this problem. hard shifting OUT OF GEAR AND IN TO NEUTRAL
the switch working with your finger does not mean its working when you shift if its bent wrong. and you HAVE to test this in the water under load. the tab on my switch broke off and i had to replace it with the newer designed switch AND mounting plate. not cheap from mercruiser.

I think I'll try tweaking the arm as Scutly suggested and see what happens. Sounds like I may be in for the same repair as Scutly. If I may ask, how much did it put you back to get it done? Did you do it yourself or have it done?

Re: Shift Problems

In case you missed it, Just make sure you look at page 1C-44 before you start bending, tweaking, or otherwise adjusting by doing whatever looks right.
That page showes you how to do it correctly.

Re: Shift Problems

How old is the cable from the control box to the engine?

If this adjustment of off, even a little then you shifting will become difficult.

Follow Don's advise and adjust BOTH shift cables by the book.

SUCCESS! Thanks everybody for your help especially you Don. This last weekend we went out and followed the book exactly and it worked perfectly. We did end up having to adjust the shift interrupt switch timing but it was really not that hard. Anyway thanks everybody and DON, YOU'RE THE MAN!
