Well i just finished changeing out the water pump and resealed the whole lower unit all went well i think ,i set the shift shaft height with a steel non flexable steel ruler to a setting of 21 and qurter like the omc manuel said. I used a small bolt that just fit in thr shift shaft hole and measured to the center of it. I have it all back together but i am finding that when i shift in gear no motor running yet i have this scrapping noise coming from the gear box so i adjust the trunion on the shift cable a little so the noise goes away but than the noise is in the other gear, i can find a happy medium so when its in gear there is no scrapping coming from the gear box , is this the right thing to do or is my shift shaft still out a little, am i going to have to by the shift shaft guage from omc brp.

Thanks

yes the seloc manuel says ideal settings are 21/1/4 acceptal range is 21/7/32 9/32 i use the factory service manuel which says 21/1/4 plus or minus 1/32 .
