Shift Rod Adjustment

I am still waiting on my Seloc manual, which I ordered 2 weeks ago. In the mean time, can anyone help me with adjusting my shift rod?

I changed the water pump and I am pretty sure I messed up the rods height when I removed and replaced the lower unit. It seems to be grinding a bit shifting gears. I have checked the idle, compression and spark as I was told to... Pretty sure the rod needs adjusted.

What is the proper height and way to adjust it?

Re: Shift Rod Adjustment

I had a similar problem I posted for a 1971 Johnson 9.5 HP. I wasn't taking the shift rod coupler bolt out and as a result, the lower shift rod didn't get inserted all the way. I still haven't disassembled and put back together yet, but I'm quite certain that's my problem. Can you give us more details about what you did when you reconnected the lower shift rod to the coupler?

On that model, it's simply a matter of screwing that barrel top connector all the way down, then backing it up so that it faces forward.

Ok, I just screw it all the way down and thats it? Wow thats really easy. The barrel has a notch cut out of it.... Should that face the power head or away from it?

Thanks for the help BTW!

The notch would be to the rear. The high part faces forward.

Re: Shift Rod Adjustment

there is a thumb wheel adjustment on the cable as well, if you need to fine tune it.
