Re: shift rod coupler

Most shops have the monstrous snap ring pliers.--Call and see if they will remove those rings.---Safety comes first, those rings could cause an ouch.

Re: shift rod coupler

I am sure it was stamped on it at one time.--Need to scrape some corrosion away to find it ??

Re: shift rod coupler

ok, got it all back together, but it didn't solve the problem. the fly wheel is so hard to turn starter wont turn it. I was hoping it was the lower end, but it wasn't. still couldn't turn easy with lower end off. seems like too much pressure in cylinders keep going. is it possible "reeds" are stuck closed so flywheel is hard to turn?

Re: shift rod coupler

??? reeds would have nothing to do with this , not a chance.-----Possible this motor has had water sitting in it and all the bearings are rusted.----That would pretty well make it a " part motor " and not worth very much. Pull the 4 bypass covers ( 6 small bolts each ) and have a look inside the motor.

Re: shift rod coupler

Squirt some ATF in the cylinders, leave it sit and then see what happens before you run off in the heat of the day.

everything went together good, but it didn't solve the problem. flywheel is so hard to turn, starter isn't strong enough. thought it was lower end causing problem, but when off flywheel was still hard to turn. is it possible "reeds" are stuck closed?, seems like too much pressure in cylinders. doesn't turn good enough for compression check.

Re: shift rod coupler

The reeds have nothing to do with it!! It's either the pistons and rings in the cylinders or the crankshaft bearings.

Re: shift rod coupler

Run to your favourite shop and ask for their opinion.----------I am thinking you have a starter / battery / battery cable issue.
