Hey guys please help I'm trying to change my impeller I know I need to disconnect my shift rod but how do I do this exactly? It's a 77 Johnson 115
I am pretty sure the disconnect screw is underneath the bottom carb. This screw (which runs thru the shift shaft hole) must be backed out before removing the lower unit. Its a little difficult to get at, but it can be done with a ratchet and socket, and a flexable screwdriver as well.
Thanx booBobbie it makes sense now it looks fun what does nla. Mean? What you've described is exactly what I thought was the way just wanted to make sure. I was able to get to that 5/8 bolt with a open end wrench. Thanks manGo to shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr and go to cyl and crankcase. Look for part # 52. Loosen that bolt and the arms will spread (don't take the bolt all the way out). After they spread it will disconnect the shift linkage. Don't lose bushing #22 as it's nla. I think the bolt takes a 5/8" flex socket.
