shift rod height

Hi I am attempting to adjust the shifting on my cobra. I have limited internet here im using my phone. Is it possible to measure the rod height without seperating the upper and lower sections of the leg? Also is it possible to change the ujoints while the drive shaft is still in the leg? Thanks so much for the help so far!

Thanks I figured out the measurement. U joints tomorrow hopefully. Looks like the shift cable has been trimmed previously so it has to come out. I measured the throw from forwatd to neutral and reverse to neutral and its less than an inch each way but even. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be at least 1 1/4 each way though

Ujoints done and new shift cable is in and adjusted hopefully. Time to clean everything up and put the leg back on. I think I'll slide the leg on without the gasket and see if Im getting forward and reverse now. If not then it must be the upper shift cable
