Hello, I have a 1965 Evinrude sportwin 9522C 9.5hp, and suspect a leaky Shift rod Oring. I can just barely see it underneath a press fit brass fitting. Any ideas how to remove/change this part? I have the whole lower end apart to cure some milky oil problems, and this is the only seal left on my to do (figure out) list. I suppose I could try to get a punch and whack it from underneath, but it's a pretty small target. Any help would be greatly appreciated, P

Re: Shift Rod O-ring 9.5 Evinrude replacement

Hey Mandrake check out my post on the QD16 lower unit at the top. Read it through a couple of posts have pictures and some ideas on how to get the bushing out. Not sure if your 65 is like my 55 but the pictures might help. Wayne is a great help, might wait until he checks your post. I ended up buying a spade bit and using a deep socket on the spade bit. BE VERY CAREFUL that you don't do what I did. Use something besides a socket. I think an extension was used by the original person and might be a better choice. Good luck.
