I'm replacing my shift rod seal...it is a conventional seal..and NOT the bellows type.
I notice that 1 side of it is metal..and the other side of it is rubber. My question is...Which end goes into the housing cover???? is it metal into the hole with rubber up?..or is it rubber down with the metal end up?

Rubber side goes down into the case. When you press it in, the metal compresses the rubber against the case and squeezes the shaft. So don't press too far. Press it in so it lightly squeezes the shaft and there is light drag as you work the shaft up and down. Too tight and you will have shifting problems
