shift rod setting please

Hello from Maryland....

I am swapping my lower unit on my outboard, a 1987 200GT -( J200STLCU Johnson 20" shaft) with another one I just got....the old one broke the shaft just above the bearing under the pump.

I was going to screw in my old shift rod and bottom it, counting the revs then put it into the replacement lower unit, bottom it and bring it out the same # of revs. to set it correctly..........but..............

Trouble is, while putting pumps on/off, I accidently unscrewed it several revolutions to take it out, thinking it was the useless replacement rod (brainfart ) and not needed... before I realized what I had done. Now, it is different than it was, so no use counting.

I searched back 9 pages on the forum... and I found listings for some, but not for my engine. Anyone able to help me with the measurement to use to the hole center to set it correctly prior to install?

Many thanks. Greg

My book says from gearcase to center of hole, in neutral, is 21 15/16" + or - 1/32".

Thank you for the rapid reply. I appreciate the feedback.
I neglected to ask, but may I assume this is taken with the unit in neutral setting, and not F or R?
Thanks, Greg

Measured from the mating surface of the gearcase to the center of the hole, in neutral.
