After replacing water pump on 1996 Evinrude 48 Hp, reverse gear did not engage correctly, just made alot of clicking from clutch dog. Where did I go wrong? What if any, are the specs on shift shaft adjustment. Its not listed on Top Secret Topics. Thanks in advance!

Listed as 21-15/16"------------- I assume you know how to set the height properly.

Cool! Thanks for the quick responses Vic S and Racerone! I will check it this weekend and make the adjustment using 21-1/16" on shift shaft. I will post my results so it may help others that are needing the same service info. Thanks again I'm very grateful! :joyous:

Alright folks, the measurement of 21-15/16 made the difference transmission engages into reverse just fine now that all it needed. The tool I used was home made. used a wooden yard stick with a small bolt fitted through it to make exact measurement.
