Shift shaft bushing and oil seal...

Can just the seal be replaced without removing the bushing assembly from the gear housing?

The manual says the bushing and seal are only availabe as an assembly, but looking at parts diagram the oil seal is listed separately as part# 8164641.

It looks like it would be an easy seal to replace without messing with removing the whole shift shaft.

Thanks

Get the complete bushing assembly. The carrier was the biggest problem with them leaking. The number is 815921A21 and runs just under $30. But will keep water out of the drive and gear lube in.

Ok sounds good. Does the assembly include the o-rings? Is it difficult to reset the shaft in the shift crank splines when reassembling? Do I need to do anything special to align the shift crank? That's the only thing that concerns me. I'm using the procedure starting on page 3B-53.

Great, you found a post that gave the answer you wanted to hear. Do what ever you want, I don't care. But when it still leaks, don't blame me.

I think he's still planning on taking your advice. Just trying to get an idea of how hard/easy it's going to be to put it back in.

Don the post I quoted was a post from you a while back. ;)

I plan on replacing the entire assembly - no big deal. Just wanted some guidance on getting it back together correctly. :)
