Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question.. BUT...
I need the shift shaft height for a 1983 Johnson 70 hp.
We are replacing the lower unit with an earlier model.
is the shift shaft height determined by the power head year or lower unit year?
1983 is the powerhead yr.
1977 is the lower unit.
They are both the same drive shaft length (long shaft) and everything bolts up correctly.
THERE IS ONE THING THOUGH... I have noticed that on all of the shift shafts (other than original from the 1983) have a single offset, whereas the 1983 has a double offset. (sorry i dont have a picture) are the shift shaft offsets on an 83 unique to that year, or non compatible with earlier year lower units (GC's)?
mechanical shift. (not hydro)
Thank you.
