shift shaft question

i have an alpha 1 gen 1 i seperated the upper and lower halfs. my question is on the upper part,the shift shaft connecter seems really loose it has a loose washer and a cotter pin and it looks like it should have some kind of rubber gasket to keep it from traveling up and down but mine has only the washer and pin. am i missing a piece or is it supposed to be like that? i looked for a view of it but was unable to find it.

yes,that's the way it is.The shaft in the lower unit stabilizes it,and even has a washer around it to control the height.<br /><br />DHP

themmer mind fellas i just located the exploded view and it seems that all there is is the washer and pin
