Shift Switch problems

Please let me know if someone knows why the shift switch of a Johnson 225 HP 1998 is getting burned. I replaced it twice, but I suspect there is something causing the switch to burn.
I hope you can help me.

The only thing that will cause that switch to burn is if voltage is being applied to it. Disconnect it and trouble shoot the wiring with a volt meter.
