Shift/Throttle Cable Clip Connections

Motor: 1960 Evinrude Fastwin 18hp (15032)
Boat: 1966 Glastron Aqua Lift 15'
Shift Control: Evinrude Simplex/Pimplex

I finally got some shift/throttle cable clips ordered (cost an arm and a leg for the little buggers). I cant seem to figure out how they attach. I thought I understood the concept.. but maybe I don't or perhaps I have the wrong cables? The cables fit and work great with that motor.. I have just been using zip ties to hold them in place. I really don't know what I am talking about so maybe the pictures will help.

The cable clip fits in the groove next to the thumbscrew - you have to turn the cable end almost vertical to get it into the clip with the cable side facing down. Attach the clip to the motor first, as it is difficult to bolt the clip onto the motor once the cable end is in place.

Yeah, I mounted the bracket onto the motor. I CANNOT get it to fit. I understand the concept... I really do. It just doesn't fit. Do i need different clips? cables? I am at a loss.

Here is a picture of them side by side... it just dosent fit. Anyone know what part I need?

That should be the right clip. See the arrowed pic to see what goes where.

Yeah, I know. It just plain dosen't fit. I totally under stand how these are to connect.... it just dosent. The white plastic thing on the cable is just waaaay to big. Would it help to see more pictures of me trying to put it on?

I just measured the opening on an old clip I had on hand and it measures 8mm. You may be able to bend the clip to open it up a little or file down the connector to fit.

So does that mean I have an old clip that isn't big enough for my cables? Or old cables that are too big for my clips? I would love to just get the right parts. Just have no idea what that is.

So how big is the opening on your clips? I don't believe that style was originally made in more than one size. Are your clips new reproductions? I've never had your problem before and I work on 1950's and 60's motors all the time.

I am trying to find the clip that goes on the END of the throttle cable. The part that connects to the engine throttle arm. See the clip int he pic.

WHERE DID YOU FIND THE CLIPS? AND HOW DOES YOURS CONNECT TO THE ENGINE AT THE THROTTLE ARM?

jbenfowler, hopefully yuo have figured out your problem by now. Scott, you should have started a new thread. HOWEVER for both of you guys here is the answer to both of your questons.....

jben, you have the wrong clips. The ones you have are for the old brass trunnion cables, but you have the plastic adjusting nut cables.

for both of you, go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ and click on "Electronic Parts Catalogs", then select "OB Accessories from the drop-down list where it defaults to "Evinrude". Then select "1972", then "Remote Controls", then "Remote Control, Single Motor". You will find the parts diagram and part numbers showing all the new cable ends and clips for the plastic adjuster style cables. For the motor end only. If you have the old round-ball levers control, the control ends are different, but the motor ends will be right.

I do beleive the part is P/N 0123140 Retainer Clip (#44 from the Evinrude shop site pic below)
