Shifter falls back on its own???

i get to 3/4 throttle and let go it starts falling back on its own,any ideas??79 twin 120 mercs.Thanks

Is there a "packing" nut on the carbs or throttle linkage that you can snug up? I'm not familiar with these at all, but I'd look for something that is supposed to provide a bit of friction that has loosened up over the years.

Would that be on the control box or on the shift cable??
