Hello,
I just bought and installed a new Teleflex side mount throttle and shifter. I got the throttle hooked up and seems to be working right. There is a tag on the shifter handle saying "Do not shift into forward or reverse with engine not running", why? What harm can be done by putting it into gear?

Safety hazard - So you don't start it up in gear

Shifting it while the motor isin't running will sometimes cause the linkage to bind and possibly break.If you need to shift while it ain't running have someone turn the prop.So it will go in and out of gear without binding.J
