Hey guys, a while back I asked about making sure my drive was ok, and now it's finally time to start up the motors so I want to make sure I didn't screw up any of the shifting mechanism before we splash.

Can an alpha I genII be safely shifted out of the water?

Yes, but it doesn't prove anything. To check the shifting you need the water resistance to the propeller.

Ah ok, I had rammed my drive back on and made the rookie mistake of allowing the prop to rotate and pop the drive out of gear, and was concerned I caused some stress on the shift cable and somehow stretched. I recently removed the drive again, checked that I could easily shift the drive by hand, the shoe was facing fore/aft when in forward at the helm, etc. and the drive went back on easily. I just noticed today that the port control lever seems to need to be slightly further forward to lock on the dogs than the starboard side, but I'll wait to jump to conclusions until she's back in the water.

It is safe (keep people away) but doesn't prove anything. Unless you are in water you won't know for sure it if is right.
