Shifting DT115 Causes Loud Noise / Blinking Dash Lights

Our 2000 DT115 has approximately 280 hours on it, and recently started making a loud metallic clanking noise when shifting into forward and reverse. I also noticed it makes the dash lights blink momentarily when I shift. Any idea what could be causing this?
