If the motor has had regular service and is other wise running correctly.<br /><br /> Like it will idle smoothly at 650 to 700 RPM <br /><br /> The lower shift cable tends to stick when it gets old and this causes the shift interrupt switch to also stay closed killing the motor<br /><br />tommays
Ayuh,......As Tommays Says,........<br /><br />What you describe are Classic Symptoms of a Failing, Sticking lower Shift Cable.........<br /><br />The Cure is Replacing said Cable.........
I had the same problem and sprayed a silicone based lubricant on the back of my controller as I moved the lever back and forth (at the lake/engine off/outdrive down). Solved the problem. It took a couple of "treatments" to get it working good again but it has not given me any more problems.
