i have a 1990 sea ray that was in a little accident. I had to replace the outdrive with a used one. i believe from reading that it is generation I. the motor in this boat is a 5.7. the boat shifted fine with the first outdrive but since replacing it shifts fine in foward but is at a very high rpm when going in to reverse. also when reving motor out of gear you can hear the outdrive ticking like it is trying to shift into gear. i did notice when i put the new outdrive on the channel did not line up perfectly if that helps. i hope it is an adjustment and not a bad outdrive. any help will be much appreciated and if you need more info let me know. i am a new boat owner so bear with me lol

Re: shifts at high rpm in reverse

It sounds to me like your shift cable is out of adjusment and you are engaging throttle before you are in reverse.
Go to the adults only section and click on the manuals link. look up your drive, and follow the directions for shift cable adjustment.
