well i recentley purchased a 1955 lone star that it painted on the bottom, and i plan on shining the the upper part, gunwhales, and the deck which i have already started. i went to advance auto parts and found what I thought would work best which was Mothers mag and aluminum polish. at first i though this would be great and it gave me a great shine on the deck, but later i thought maybe its not so good for the sides and transom, or maybe the deck either for that matter.has anybody polished their boat with this stuff before, that may know if the water could change the color of the aluminum? or should I just stop using it, and get a marine grade polish?..thanks for looking!

Why would you use metal polish on gel coat?
The next question is, on the label of the product, does it state how to use on gel coat?

Where are you getting gel coat from? It's an aluminum hull, sorry I didn't state that clearly before.

I'm doing the same on my Starcraft. I'm using Shark Hide. The site has a link to projects on the left menu. Click on it and check out some of the boats they've done.
I think if you said it was a '55 Lonestar and you were thinking of using aluminum polish you were clear enough with your intent. Cool old boats, post some pics when you're done or in the process. I'd like to see how it cleans up.
