Hello everyone,

This is my first post on iBoats, I hope I am posting in the correct section. If not, please point me there!

I live in the UK (England) and own a 17ft speedboat. It is currently powered by a 125hp Mercury (1992) which I don't like as it runs in an annoying 2+2 mode which is horrible for wake boarding as at that speed the motor is constantly jumping between 2 and 4 cylinders.

Anyway, enough background. I would like to buy a 150hp outboard for the boat, but find that the used motors available in the UK are overpriced and rare, and there are many more examples at reasonable prices in the US.

Does anyone have any advice about whether it would be feasible to buy a motor in the US and ship it to the UK? I have seen a few motors advertised in the US for around $1000 and even allowing $1000 (is that realistic?) for shipping, this would still put me about 1/2 the price of the cheapest examples in the UK.

My key concerns are how to arrange shipping (I Googled but couldn't find any obvious couriers), and how to pay for the motor in a safe way from overseas. I guess buying from a dealer who can accept credit card would be an option there.

Anyway, thoughts and advice will be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
