Shoot-thru-hull transducer install

I picked up a sonar (Lowerance LMS-334c) for my Trohpy 1802 Walkaround with a shoot-thru-hull transducer. I'm taking it out on the water Sunday to find the best place for it. I'm assuming it just has to be expoxied directly to the flatest/lowest part of the hull I can find.<br /><br />Anyone have any experiance installing this type of transducer? Any tips???

THATS ABOUT IT, "epoxied to the lowest and flatest part of the hull" when you are mixing the epoxy adhesive try and be gentle with the mixing process so as to eliminate air bubbles, I use a slow curing two part epoxy made here in South Africa that has a long curing time, this alows me to slow down the whole process, plenty of time to do the mixing and plenty of time for air bubbles to float out and plenty of time to possition the transducer, Kind regards, William Wright.

You might want to borrow some of your kid's playdough and a sock full of sand to test for best spot. That way you can simulate it as being installed but still be able to try various location.

Before you mount it give it a try. When you do nount it get everything as clean as possible and use slooow cure epoxy. Mix without making any bubbles and if you get some air in the Slow cure should let them work there way out.<br /><br />To test find a likely good location near the stern and deep in the bilge. You can build a dam to hold water in an area with some kids modeling clay or a short peice of plastic pipe big enough to put the transducer in. Seal the pipe to the bottom with silicone seal. Add so water insert the transducer and put a small bag of sand on top to hold it down and go test.<br /><br />Solid fiberglass should work with only about 10 percent loss. Hand lay up fiberglass will also work if they soaked the mats with reasin and got all the air out. Fiberglass with a foam core will not work unless your get down to the bottom fiberglass layer. Some boat manufactures do make a spot for the transducer, mostly bass boats.
