Need the Mercruiser serial number from the engine in the boat, not a GM number.
On the back of the block just above the starter there should be a tag with the number. It will be in this format, 0 then a letter, then 6 more numbers.

thank don i will look for it this weekend..its getting cold here but it not ALASKA.. it cold where you are...don off topic lots of boats running there in winter..fishing??

I guess since it's the right one, you must have an 88 motor, not an 89.

Re: your previous reply, fishing is slow this time of year. Maybe a few winter Kings (Salmon) but you work for them.
I'm also not up north, I'm down here in the panhandle. So far it hasn't gotten below +20° and our first snow was last night plus what we are getting now we must be up to 3/4" total.
