So going up to the fisherman and asking them if you mind if my dog goes for a swim would be out of the question? So instead we will just let precious do what it wants when it wants at everyones expense. No courtesy at all.

So let's turn it around from the other side.

OK, we can do that... :D

After the dog gets his fill of swimming the dog owners head over to a picinic table for a nice relaxing lunch. ngt also has his fill of fishing so he heads over to "the same picnic table" to monkey around with his fishing gear and gut his catch. After all, he was nice enough to share his piece of the lake, they shouldn't have a problem with sharing their picnic table.......

Yes,,, there are a bunch of other unoccupied picnic tables all over the park, but there is no reason for ngt to walk over to them since this one is closer. Heck, it's the picnic table he always uses and just because the dog people are occupying one half, doesn't mean he can't use the unoccupied half.

I mean, it's a public park and just because the dog people got to the picnic table first, doesn't give them exclusive rights to the picnic table. It's not like they bought the picnic table and it's their property.

ngt, if the dogs were "Splashing and swimming all of the way out into the center of the pond." and that scared your fish away, it doesn't sound like there was anywhere else for them to go that would not have disturbed you. Unless dogs swimming in the pond is illegal, it doesn't seem there was anything they could do, besides not use the pond. And since you had already gotten some time alone to enjoy it, sounds like it was time to share.

There are two ponds, and the other one is 3-4 times the size of this one. Also, the other side of this pond had a path to the water. The dog literally walked between us into the water. I hear you though. It's not my pond. But hiking 45 minutes and 1000+ ft of elevation to get to the better fishing pond for a more than rare fishing day with your 64 year old dad, when they pass the larger pond on the way up, only to have the day stopped short, kinda sucks either way.

Sorry but no. Cleaning a fish on anyones eating table is not considered sharing. Nor is it the reason the table is placed there.

lol, payback? yeah. sharing? no. Even when camping, I clean my fish as far away from anyone's site as possible. I also bag all of the left overs in ziplock bags before dumping it. I'm a pretty courteous and thoughtful person in general. Reason why this dog thing pissed me off so much, as I always think about other people I'd be bothering when out doing just about anything.

Fish cleaning was just added for dramatic affect... :D (I wouldn't clean fish on a picnic table)

Point is, someone barging up thinking they can share your picnic table, is just as rude as letting your dog go swimming in front of someone fishing. No matter what the reason, it's rude.

Well, that would be the opinion of the guy fishing I suppose. ;)

Like I said, if you read these forums you'll see lots of folks saying how bad the "other guy" is for not doing things the way they want. Shrug...

Ummmmm....you "suppose"? :confused::facepalm:

That was exactly the point made by the OP (AKA, the guy fishing). Glad you are finally getting it.

And I , too, read these forums, but I see lots of people saying how bad the "other guy" is for behaving in what MOST (apparently not you) would consider a thoughtless, uncivil manner. ;)

You could not be upset by thoughtless people infringeing on you anywhere, in any fashion if you do not practice politeness and good common sense/courtesy w strangers YOURSELF. Thats why it angers most folks IMO. I would not have done that. And I would have let them know for doing it to me. Enough room on most any pond for a dog to enjoy away from people trying to fish. Almost sounds deliberate after reading more of your story. Perhaps you beat them to the fishing hole, so they stashed their gear and used the dog to try to run you off!:D

Makes me think of all the times something I did probably angered someone doing something else.

Like the time I used the channel to get into the cove (only way in or out), and the 10-15 guys fishing from shore had to reel their lines in, wait for me to pass, and then recast... There was probably a post on this site about how I have the nerve to ride my jet ski, right where they were fishing. I guess I got lucky noone cast a heavy sinker at me for using the waterway. The nerve of me... :D

To each his own, I simply would have asked if there was a chance they could let the dog swim elsewhere, as you were fishing, and the dog could very well get caught in your hooks, lines, etc...

I had this happen to me at a campground. I used the biggest sinker I had in my box and tossed it out. Ker-plunk. The dog owner said what the he** I just looked at him and said yea what the He**. He called his dog back and went and told the ranger. This ranger comes to my camping spot and said crack the dog owner in the head the next time. We have a good laugh and he goes away. The dog owners won this battle though. the path to the fishing spot was covered in crud the next morning. Dont you just love stupid people?
