I have a Duranautic Offshore 14 '. Transom height = 17 inches. Max motor rated at 30 hp.
The transom plywood had rot. I removed it and went back with HDPE instead of plywood and added an aluminum plate inside to "samdwich" the HDPE to the exterior transom. And re attached that to their floor attached "kicker" angle.

Item 1 What are your thoughts on going to a larger hp motor. the fresh transom is far superior to the original.

Item 2 I am only finding 30 hp to 50 hp motors in the "long shaft" version. most shaft lengths at 20 inches.
DO they not make Short Shaft motors larger than 25?
Is their a data base about number of SS or LS manufactured/sold?

Howdy, h20 etc.

The HP rating on your boat is for the hull, not just the transom. Stick with 30HP or less.

Outboards of 30HP with short shafts are not very common. You can extend the transom or try to find an outboard with a 15" leg.

Evinrude etec lists 25 and 30 manual start 15 & 20",Yamaha 4 stroke lists 25hp, 15&20"
Merc, has 20,25,30 and 40 15&20" motors. Not buying new there must be lots of used 15" motors.

Re: Short and long shaft motor specifications

I am purchasing a new motor for my orlando clipper which has a 15.5 inch transom. I did a lot of research and it really depends on what features you are looking for. Do you want electric start? Remote or Tiller? Power Tilt and Trim?

I wanted electric and remote, PTT would be nice but not essential.

Tohatsu and Nissan make a 25hp and 30hp, 15 inch, electirc, remote, ptt. Yamaha makes a 25 horse, electric, remote, no ptt (F25sea). An evinrude dealer told me to stay away from anything less than a 40hp etec, but then 40hp are all 20inch. Suzuki and mercury do not even make a 25hp, 15inch, electric, remote. I do not know about tiller motors but you will not find a 40hp, electric, remote with a 15 inch shaft and 15 inch, 25hp, electric, remotes are limited to Yamaha, Nissan and Tohatsu.

You could always use a jack plate.
