Re: Short Somewhere

I will measure the current tomorrow. Would the regulator still draw with the boat sitting in the driveway? Could it be the circuit breakers on the console wires?

The answer to the first question is yes.

The answer to the second question is unlikely.

Re: Short Somewhere

If you have the master switch turned off, and the battery is still dying, that leaves the engine and the harness to the console as the source of the problem.

Re: Short Somewhere

I had only the engine cables to the battery and the battery stayed good so that leave out the regulator right?

Re: Short Somewhere

That would seem to eliminate the engine and the wire harness between the engine and the throttle/shift control box. But what confuses me now is what's different with the engine battery cables connected now versus what you had before when the battery was going dead just sitting there? You need to be logical in your troubleshooting -- helter skelter will drive you nuts.

I have just the console wires hooked to the battery now. It has to be the wires from the console, I would think?

Re: Short Somewhere

I found my problem. My cig. lighter wire came loose and was ground out, draining the battery. That is a load off to have it fixed and be able to go fishing again. Thank you guys for all the help.8)8)8)8)

''got a new battery. 2-3 hours later it was dead.''.....BIG DRAW! Sounds like all the lights inc.the spotlite were on if the engine/wiring harness indeed wuz unhooked!!

Must have barely been hitting a ground if it didn't blow a fuse. You do have a fuse on your cig lighter right?

Dead short to ground= blown fuse or burned wire/ boat. Somethings fishy.

"Or likely beyond my understanding."

I think there is a circuit breaker. Maybe not. I will check. What size inline fuse should I install?

Re: Short Somewhere

Ultimately depends on your wire size but 15A should be fine.
