I have a 1979 80 hp mercury with mercontrol. both the shift and trottle cable is way to long (about 5 feet). Is there anyway to shorten them by myself or do I have to buy new cables?

/Bjornis

You have to buy new cables. Or you can make one big (not tight) loop out of the extra.

-W

Re: Shorten shift/trottle cable

Thanks Clams!
Expected that. They are in a loop right now but dont like that solution, want it to be nice around the engine. Well maybe time to change them anyway, disconnected them from engine today and they dont move as easy like I want to.

That leeds to two more questions:
1. how do i measure so i get the correct lenght?
2. What cable should i buy?
