Can the boat be moved up on the trailer to make the over all length shorter.
Is this an outboard motor? Could you remove the motor?

My suggestion is to build two short stub "walls" for the garage door to rest on and if the garage is heated you could seal off the area where the toungue protrudes w/ foam rubber or insulation. This is if it's a single door, if it's a wide door then that idea is out the door, pardon the pun.

The down side to this is there is a large gap at the top of the door when its not closed all the way.

I would take it to a welder, cut it off at your marks, weld the one cut off piece back in at your marks crosswise, and the other piece in crosswise about two feet back. Then make a hole in each "new" crossbrace for a piece of tubing to be welded in that your 3X3 would slide into and secure with pins. My one trailer is 10,000lbs rated and is made this way.

Ok: Now we are getting some suggestions. By the way boat is an in-out and could be moved ahead about a foot if I move the winch but is still about 2' too long. Ohioriver check picture in #14. Doesn't this look to be just as strong as original. Thanx

I'm not sure i'm seeing the right thing in the picture, but if that is U channel that you would use to bolt back together I think that would solve the strength problem Biffelfan was talking about.

Yes, That what it is. Each pice is 30" long extending 15" on each side of the cut point.

For long term storage, why not simply unbolt the winch post and move the hull forward as far as it can go? You should be able to get a couple of feet there.
